Call for Expressions of Interest: Human Rights Centre Uganda Invites Grassroots Organisations to Strengthen Human Rights Monitoring – Apply by 21 August 2026

Overview

The Human Rights Centre Uganda (HRCU) has issued a Call for Expressions of Interest from grassroots organisations and media actors to take part in a structured human rights monitoring framework across the West Nile and Karamoja regions of Uganda. The work falls under the Civic Space Improvement Project, funded through the Programme on Accountability, Civic Engagement, and Rights (PACER) and carried out with state and non-state partners.

The project aims to strengthen civic participation, human rights monitoring and accountability, and to help grassroots groups contribute to policy and legislative reform. Under Output 2.3, it supports grassroots organisations in monitoring, documenting and reporting human rights and civic space cases, and the resulting information is meant to feed evidence-based advocacy.

Who can apply

HRCU wants organisations and media actors working in the targeted districts of West Nile and Karamoja that have the capacity and interest to monitor, document and report human rights cases. Community-based organisations, civil society groups and local media with existing community networks and experience in human rights, civic engagement, documentation, media or advocacy are likely to be relevant. Applicants should make sure their work and experience match the geographic scope.

What you get

Selected organisations will contribute to a framework covering grassroots monitoring, case documentation, reporting through appropriate channels, evidence generation for advocacy, support for legislative and policy reform, stronger accountability and capacity building for civic space monitoring.
