University of Toronto Presidents’ Impact Scholarship Program 2027 | Fully Funded
Overview
The University of Toronto has established the Presidents’ Impact Scholarship Program to support exceptional doctoral applicants from Canada and internationally. Funded by a $100-million investment that includes an anonymous $50-million philanthropic commitment and university matching funds, the initiative focuses on interdisciplinary research and real-world problem-solving regarding major societal challenges. Each year, a cohort of 12 or more scholars will gather around a specific annual theme, which may encompass fields such as artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, genomics, biomedical sciences, sustainability, public policy, and cybersecurity.
Who can apply
The programme is open to exceptional PhD applicants from both Canada and around the world representing a wide range of disciplines. Candidates are evaluated on academic excellence alongside their demonstrated capacity for innovation, creativity, and real-world problem-solving. The university seeks individuals with the curiosity, imagination, and initiative to translate knowledge into meaningful public or commercial impact through ambitious interdisciplinary research.
What you get
Presidents’ Impact Scholars receive $80,000 per year for four years, resulting in a total funding package of $320,000 over the four-year PhD period. Alongside financial support, participants join a selective interdisciplinary community and work with two faculty supervisors from different disciplines. Scholars also gain opportunities for creative collaboration, experiential learning, and external engagement experiences such as government partnerships, international placements, or industry internships.
Key dates
The inaugural cohort of Presidents’ Impact Scholars is expected to begin their studies in September 2027. At the time of the programme launch, a formal call for applications had not yet been issued, and complete application instructions and deadlines had not been published.
