Overview

Girl Rising is seeking a freelance Producer and Project Manager to lead Unmuted: The Girl Rising Global Storytelling Challenge and the short documentary that follows. Girl Rising is a global nonprofit that uses storytelling to raise awareness about girls' education and women's rights, working with local partners in Africa, Asia and Latin America. In 2025 it merged with She's the First, extending its reach in India, Kenya, Guatemala and the United States.

Unmuted launches in October 2026 on International Day of the Girl. It invites young people aged 14 to 25, plus teachers and mentors, to share stories as video, spoken word, writing or drawings. A youth panel helps curate submissions and a judging panel selects spotlight stories. Creators can win cash and technology prizes, and the strongest stories may be developed into a short documentary with a major Hollywood production company.

What the role involves

Phase 1, from about October 2026 to March or April 2027, covers challenge operations: the submission platform, multilingual materials, outreach in India, Kenya, Uganda, Guatemala and the United States, partner and ambassador engagement, intake and eligibility checks, the youth review panel and judging. Phase 2, from about April to October 2027, covers production with the company Yoruba Saxon, including story development, participant communication, field logistics, local cinematographers, translators, permits, safeguarding and consent procedures, the digital story archive and premiere activities.

Who can apply

Girl Rising wants at least five years of film, documentary or video production experience, strong project management, a sense of storytelling, experience across cultures and time zones, senior-level work with corporate partners and funders, and excellent English. Hindi, Swahili or Spanish is strongly valued.

What you get

The role is remote, with a strong preference for candidates based in India, Kenya or Guatemala. It is freelance and full-time equivalent, for about 8 months to 1 year with possible extension, with a competitive project fee based on experience. The start is immediate.

Key dates

Applications must be submitted by 15 September 2026.
