Anthropic Research Resident
Overview
The Anthropic Research Resident program is a paid, fixed-term research opportunity designed for individuals looking to transition into full-time work focused on making artificial intelligence safe and beneficial for humanity. Placements last between six weeks and six months, with specific durations depending on team fit and candidate preferences. Participants receive a concrete, scoped project tailored to their background, along with direct mentorship from researchers, access to Claude models and GPU compute, and connections to the broader AI safety and security research community.
Who can apply
This opportunity is aimed at individuals who have led ambitious work in various technical fields, such as professors in quantitative disciplines, technical founders, and staff-level engineers. A background in machine learning is not required. Ideal candidates are motivated by AI safety, excited to transition into empirical AI research full-time, and capable of thriving in fast-paced, collaborative environments while implementing ideas quickly and communicating clearly. Strong candidates may also bring experience authoring research papers in machine learning, natural language processing, or AI safety, as well as familiarity with large language models, reinforcement learning, Kubernetes clusters, and complex shared codebases.
What you get
Participants receive a pro-rated annual compensation ranging from £265,000 to £375,000 alongside benefits. Visa sponsorship is available for placements lasting three months or longer. For six-week placements, remote participation from a country where the organization can hire is encouraged.
Requirements
Applicants must hold at least a bachelor’s degree or possess an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a relevant field. The required years of experience correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position. Participants must commit to the role on a full-time basis for the duration of the residency.
How to apply
The selection process consists of an initial application, a recruiter screen, a technical assessment, a research discussion, and a reference check. Applicants may also be considered for the Anthropic Fellows Program.
Key dates
Applications for this application round close on November 22, 2026, at 11:59 PM PT. Offers are expected to be made in January 2027.
