Overview
Healthy Learners, an award-winning nonprofit improving the health and education of children in Zambia, is hiring a Head of Product Management. The post is full-time and remote for candidates based in Africa, with occasional travel to Zambia, expected at less than 25% of working time. It reports to the Chief Technology Officer within the Digital Health department. Working with the Government of Zambia, the organisation delivers healthcare through schools, having set up 1,062 health rooms, trained 8,370 School Health Teachers and reached more than 1.4 million learners across 45 districts and all ten provinces. It is now moving beyond national scale-up toward stronger programme quality, government leadership and regional expansion.
The Head of Product Management leads strategy, development and deployment of digital products for the School Health Program, including internal platforms, mobile and tablet apps, analytics dashboards and third-party tools. Duties include owning the roadmap, prioritising features, managing backlogs and releases, translating programme needs into specifications, overseeing development, testing and quality assurance, leading national-scale deployment including pilots, training, device provisioning and online/offline data synchronisation, setting product KPIs such as uptime and data completeness, managing vendors and contracts, meeting security and data protection requirements including the Zambia Data Protection Act 2021, and building a small team of product managers, product owners and business analysts.
Requirements
Applicants need a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Public Health, International Development or a related field, with a master's preferred, and at least 6 years of product management or product leadership experience. Required experience includes managing software development lifecycles, leading product teams, managing third-party integrations, deploying digital solutions at scale and working in low-resource or offline settings, plus technical understanding of APIs, data flows and cloud infrastructure, and experience with government stakeholders and donor reporting. CSPO or PMP certification is desirable. Candidates should be in Africa-friendly time zones.
