Overview

The World Food Programme (WFP) recruits interns through its official careers platform for positions at country offices, regional bureaux and headquarters. The internships give students and recent graduates practical experience in areas such as humanitarian assistance, food security, research, data analysis, programme support and communications, alongside their studies. Each vacancy has its own responsibilities, qualifications, location and deadline, and the work arrangement depends on the specific post.

Interns may analyze data, prepare reports and presentations, contribute technical knowledge in team discussions, or help with administration, coordination, monitoring, supply chain, procurement, finance or information management.

Who can apply

Applicants are generally enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme at a recognized university and have attended classes in the previous twelve months. Recent graduates qualify if they graduated no more than six months before applying and attended classes in the previous twelve months. At least two years of undergraduate study must be completed. A sister, brother, mother or father working for WFP rules an applicant out.

Requirements

Fluent English is required, and working knowledge of French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Portuguese is an asset. Candidates should be proficient in Microsoft Office on Windows, work well with others and follow WFP's Leadership Framework and Common Standards of Behaviour.

What you get

Internships last two to eight months. A stipend contributes to basic living costs, varies with the city and country of assignment and does not exceed US$1,000 per month. Interns have medical and accident insurance, and benefits can include official holidays, certified sick leave, visa support where applicable and access to training and e-learning.

How to apply

Applicants search for internship vacancies on the WFP careers platform, read each description in full, and provide the documents requested. Closing dates differ by vacancy. WFP charges no fees at any stage of recruitment.
