Overview

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is offering a six-month Communication and Outreach Internship in Vienna, Austria, within its Division of Agribusiness and Infrastructure Development. The internship is scheduled to begin on 2 January 2027. UNIDO is the UN specialized agency for inclusive and sustainable industrial development, and the division supports rural development and the modernization of agriculture and agribusiness, including food security, poverty reduction, climate action and value chains.

The intern works under a designated UNIDO officer and supports communication and outreach for technical cooperation projects. Tasks include helping develop communication manuals and guidelines, outreach plan templates and templates for success stories, case studies, blog posts and news articles, producing social media content for platforms such as LinkedIn and Facebook, preparing presentations, leaflets, brochures and pamphlets, curating project information, assisting with webinars and information sessions, and working with data teams on evidence-based articles.

Who can apply

Applicants can be enrolled in a master's or higher programme, have completed one within the past year, be in the final year of a bachelor's degree, or have completed a first degree within the past year. Only degrees from accredited institutions count. Preferred fields include development communication, media studies, graphic design and related areas.

Requirements

Fluent written and spoken English is required, and Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish is an advantage. Basic research skills and familiarity with data tools such as Excel are expected.

What you get

Interns receive a monthly stipend based on the duty station, and are responsible for their own living expenses, accommodation and visas. The internship offers on-the-job training and experience in research, project design, event organization and documentation in a multicultural setting.
