Overview

UNICEF's Office of Innovation in Sweden is taking on several interns for a six-month, part-time Venture Fund internship based in Stockholm. The placement can be completed in person or remotely. The Office of Innovation identifies, develops and scales new approaches, technologies and partnerships that improve outcomes for children, including frontier technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, drones, virtual reality and sensors.

The UNICEF Venture Fund, established in 2015, finances early-stage, open-source technology solutions that can benefit children. Interns work with the Fund team under supervision across startup sourcing and due diligence, knowledge generation, resource mobilization, portfolio management and country-office engagement. Tasks include reviewing company applications, preparing evaluation notes, maintaining sourcing and portfolio trackers, drafting knowledge briefs, slide decks, case studies and meeting summaries, and helping identify routes for promising solutions to move from pilot to scale.

What you get

Selected candidates receive a monthly stipend, unless they already have third-party financial support for the internship. Interns cover their own travel and living costs, provide their own laptop and internet connection, and must hold medical insurance for the internship period and location. There is no expectation of employment afterwards. Interns can build knowledge of global development challenges, writing and editing skills, data analytics with Excel and Power BI, and experience working alongside innovation professionals.

Who can apply

Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme, or have graduated within the past two years. They must be at least 18, show good academic performance and be able to work part time. Relevant backgrounds include social and economic development, business administration, political science, economics, innovation, public administration and related fields.

Requirements

Strong organizational and time-management skills, good interpersonal abilities and the capacity to work in a diverse, multicultural setting are needed. Knowledge of Microsoft 365 tools, including SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams, is required, along with excellent written and spoken English. Another UN language, such as French, Russian, Arabic, Spanish or Chinese, is an asset. Previous private or public sector experience, exposure to innovation work and experience in emerging economies or programme countries are desirable.

Key dates

The internship was advertised on 11 September 2026. Applications are submitted through the UNICEF careers platform by 25 September 2026, Central Europe Daylight Time.
