Overview

Graphcore invites applications for a 12-week summer internship focusing on AI compute libraries and performance. Participants join a team in Bristol, United Kingdom, to work on real engineering projects that help machine learning models run efficiently on next-generation hardware. The programme begins in June 2027 and offers interns the opportunity to develop practical skills in low-level software, numerical computing, and performance optimization alongside experienced engineers.

Who can apply

Candidates must currently be studying toward a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Maths, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field. Previous industry experience is not required. Applicants must already hold the right to work in the United Kingdom for the entire duration of the programme without requiring visa sponsorship, as the organization cannot sponsor work visas for early careers positions.

What you get

Interns receive a salary of 2500 GBP per month and accrue 5 days of annual leave during the 12-week programme. Additional provisions include flexible working options and access to the O'Reilly online learning platform. On-site benefits at the Bristol office feature collaborative workspaces, free food, ice cream, and an on-site barista.

Requirements

Applicants need programming experience with C or C++11, as well as familiarity with Python or scripting tools used for automation and testing. A foundational understanding of linear algebra, numerical methods, or scientific computing is also necessary. While not strictly required, additional strengths include coursework or experience with machine learning frameworks, parallel programming, code optimization, mathematics libraries, or performance analysis.

How to apply

Candidates must submit a CV, a cover letter, and responses to the application questions. Following initial reviews, successful applicants will be invited to complete a technical assessment, with final-stage candidates participating in in-person assessments during early spring.

Key dates

The application deadline is midnight on 29th November 2026, though early applications are encouraged due to the possibility of roles closing beforehand. Applicants will be notified of their application outcome by early December at the latest. The internship programme starts in June 2027.
