Research Scientist, Synthetic Organic Chemistry
Overview
Dayhoff Labs is seeking a Research Scientist in Synthetic Organic Chemistry to join the team. The organization focuses on reverse-engineering the origin of life by combining organic synthesis, analytical expertise, and artificial intelligence. The team works on problems spanning geochemistry, biochemistry, catalysis, green synthesis, and synthetic biology. The role involves working closely with enzymologists and computational scientists to design assays, test proposed chemistry, and investigate experimental results.
Requirements
Candidates must have practical experience in the organic synthesis of biological molecules, focusing on peptides or nucleic acid derivatives. Strong analytical method development skills are required, including sample preparation, chromatographic separation, and quantitative mass spectrometry. Applicants need hands-on experience with triple-quadrupole LC-MS/MS and Orbitrap-based proteomics. Additional requirements include the ability to independently troubleshoot synthetic and analytical problems, alongside sound scientific judgement concerning experimental design and data quality. Preferred experience includes solid-phase peptide or oligonucleotide synthesis, bioconjugation, non-canonical building blocks, acoustic ejection technologies, high-throughput analytical workflows, laboratory automation, and characterizing enzyme-catalysed reactions.
