Overview

GIZ is offering a full-time internship with the Refugee Inclusion Accelerator (RISE) in Bonn, Germany, from 1 November 2026 to 30 April 2027. The internship pays a monthly gross stipend of €2,349 and falls in GIZ's Trainees job category. The intern supports the global RISE coordination unit with research, programme planning, workshops, innovation and knowledge products.

The RISE Global Programme is commissioned by Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by GIZ. It focuses on integrating refugees into national systems for education, social protection and the economy, working within the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus through advisory services for national governments, innovation labs and learning processes that benefit refugees, host communities and governments.

Who can apply

Candidates must currently be enrolled as students or have graduated no longer than six months before the internship starts. They should be studying social sciences, international relations, peace and conflict studies, refugee and migration studies or a related discipline.

Requirements

Applicants need a basic understanding of displacement issues and frameworks such as the Global Compact on Refugees, as well as development and humanitarian action and the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus. Initial experience supporting project management in international settings is expected, along with a careful, structured working style for formal procedures such as procurement and contracting. Excellent communication skills are required, including fluent written and spoken German and English. Fluent French is an advantage, as is the ability to turn complex information into communication products for internal and external audiences.

The intern assists programme management with organisational and strategic processes and contributes to country-related analytical products, including context and risk analyses, through research, drafting and incorporating technical feedback. They support cross-country workshops and innovative learning formats, in person and online, and help develop concepts for innovation labs through concept notes, factsheets and background research on country and policy contexts. They also prepare lessons learned and good-practice examples, create communication and knowledge products, and research innovative approaches to displacement and migration in partner countries.

How to apply

Applications go through the GIZ Career Portal. Candidates should confirm that they meet the academic, experience, language and student-status requirements and show their interest in refugee inclusion and international development.

Key dates
