Overview

The Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is a German federal enterprise that supports development policy goals worldwide and works with partner organizations in around 120 countries. It offers internships to students and recent graduates in international development, climate action, energy, sustainability, communications and global cooperation, in Germany and overseas. Several current vacancies pay a monthly gross stipend of 2,349 euros.

Current vacancies

A communication-focused internship in sustainable energy project development is based in Berlin from 1 November to 31 December 2026, with a possible four-month extension. It calls for initial experience in communications, public relations or content creation, ideally in an international or sustainability setting, plus very good German and English; French is an advantage.

The regional project Accelerating the Energy Transition in Africa, based in Eschborn, offers an internship from 1 November 2026 to 30 April 2027, closing on 15 September 2026. It supports African Union goals on renewable energy, power-system interconnection, planning and energy access. English at C1 level is required and German at B1+ is advantageous.

In Djibouti, the Regional Transformation Cluster internship runs six months from 1 November 2026 to 30 April 2027 and supports regional work on migration, climate resilience, disaster risk management, cross-border peacebuilding, trade and conflict prevention with the Intergovernmental Authority on Development. Tasks include preparing documents for BMZ and EU submissions and coordinating consultants. It pays an overseas allowance on top of the stipend and closes on 22 September 2026.

The Cities Finance Facility in Berlin runs from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027 and focuses on climate mitigation and adaptation in cities and climate finance. A degree in a field such as climate change, urbanization, economics, finance, sociology, public policy, political science or communications is expected, along with business fluency in German and English.

Who can apply

Interns are generally enrolled students or people who graduated no more than six months before the internship begins. Individual vacancies may add academic, professional or language requirements.
