Democracy Defenders Action, Paid Internship, Internship 2026, Remote Internship, US Internships, Internship Opportunities, Student
Overview
Democracy Defenders Action (DDA) accepts applications on a rolling basis for a paid, remote internship open to people located anywhere in the United States. The posting builds a pool of candidates rather than filling a single vacancy with a fixed start date; when a placement opens, the organization reviews applications and may contact people whose skills and interests fit. Applying does not guarantee an internship or a response.
DDA is a 501(c)(4) organization within the Democracy Defenders family, which also includes a c3 organization, a legally separate political action committee and The Contrarian. It describes its work as a strategic effort to combat authoritarianism and strengthen American democracy by upholding the rule of law, protecting free and fair elections and fighting corruption through the courts and public opinion.
Who can apply
The internship suits rising juniors, rising seniors and recent graduates of two-year or four-year undergraduate programs, and current JD candidates are encouraged to apply. Non-traditional work histories and transferable skills are welcome. Strong written communication is important, along with a commitment to defeating election sabotage and denial, fighting autocracy and building a resilient democracy. DDA looks for self-starters who are adaptable, organized, supportive of diversity and inclusion and comfortable with changing priorities in a fast-paced setting.
What you get
The role is paid, with compensation based on education and experience, and is temporary and non-exempt. It can be done from any US state, with optional access to office space in Washington, DC. Duties depend on the organization's needs when a placement is made and may relate to elections, democratic institutions, the rule of law and public advocacy.
How to apply
Submit a resume and brief responses to the application prompts, each no more than 300 words, instead of a cover letter. Candidates who do not meet every qualification are still encouraged to apply. DDA is an equal opportunity employer.
