2027 Summer Intern, BS/MS, Software Engineering, Commercialization
Overview
Waymo, the autonomous driving technology company that began as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, is recruiting a 2027 summer intern in Software Engineering for its commercialization work, based in Warsaw. Waymo aims to be the world's most trusted driver, and its Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips and driven more than 100 million miles on public roads, plus tens of billions in simulation.
The intern joins Software Engineering, which builds the software that allows the Waymo Driver to perceive its surroundings, make decisions and deliver passengers safely. Interns work with industry leaders on projects that have an impact on the company, and the programme is described as a two-way learning exchange.
What you will do
Projects may involve improving the stability and reliability of backend infrastructure, building features in applications such as Event Response or vehicle maintenance tracking, and optimising the robotaxi marketplace to balance supply and demand. Interns also design and develop backend systems and infrastructure for ride-hailing businesses and autonomous vehicle fleet management, and build machine learning and optimisation models for vehicle routing, demand forecasting, passenger destination suggestions, vehicle dispatch optimisation and ETA prediction.
Who can apply
Applicants should be progressing towards a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related technical field. They should be interested in infrastructure work such as internal tools, frameworks and libraries, interested in scaling commercial operations, and able to communicate well with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders. Enthusiasm for self-driving cars is expected. Experience with distributed systems and backend development, and with C++ or writing robust, efficient code, is preferred.
