YLAI Fellowship Application: AI Use and Data Privacy Policy Explained
Overview
The Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI) Fellowship Program provides application guidelines regarding the use of artificial intelligence, data privacy, and personal authenticity. The policy explains how applications are prepared, how data and submissions are reviewed, and how personal information is handled by IREX and the United States Department of State.
Requirements
Applicants must complete their essay responses independently, ensuring their submissions reflect their own genuine ideas, experiences, and writing. The programme values authenticity over perfection and does not require flawless grammar or polished language. Before submitting, applicants must agree to the applicant certification, confirming their work is original, that they have not used generative AI to draft or substantially revise essays, and that they have read the data use and privacy policies.
What you get
Applicants are permitted to use artificial intelligence tools for specific supporting activities, including brainstorming, research, translation, and note-taking. Generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, and Claude are strictly prohibited for writing, drafting, rewriting, or substantially revising essay responses.
