Overview

The Princeton in Africa Fellowship is a post-graduate leadership and service program that matches talented graduates with paid, year-long fellowship positions at leading organizations across the African continent. Established in 1999, the nonprofit initiative places participants with local, regional, and international institutions working in fields such as public health, education, humanitarian assistance, economic development, agriculture, and youth empowerment. Fellows operate as full-time staff members to gain practical experience, build professional skills, and contribute to sustainable development efforts.

Who can apply

The fellowship is open to graduates from U.S.-accredited colleges and universities, as well as graduates from colleges and universities located across the African continent. Applicants from a wide range of academic disciplines are welcome to apply, provided they demonstrate a strong commitment to service, leadership, cross-cultural engagement, and professional excellence. The program also values practical experience, adaptability, initiative, and a genuine interest in international development.

What you get

Participants receive financial support through a paid fellowship position, allowing them to focus on professional growth and impact during their year-long placement. The program provides full-time employment with prominent host organizations, opportunities to build leadership and project management skills, and a platform to expand professional networks internationally and across Africa. Fellows also gain specialized experience in diverse cultural and professional environments while contributing to meaningful social impact initiatives.

How to apply

Candidates must submit their applications through the online application portal by creating a new user account with a valid email address and completing the online registration form alongside all required materials. Applicants are advised to start early to prepare their documents and handle any technical issues. Final fellowship offers are issued on a rolling basis during the placement period, following a separate notification process for advancing to the interview stage.
