Overview

The AmaliTech Apprenticeship Programme is a paid training initiative in Rwanda funded by DEG Impulse. It provides practical technical training, mentorship, and real-world project experience to prepare participants for careers in the global technology sector. The programme takes place in Kigali and offers two distinct pathways depending on applicant experience levels.

Participants can choose from several specialisations including Data Engineering, Python Backend and AI Application Development, Java Backend Development, Quality Assurance, JavaScript Full Stack Development, and DevOps. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional technology employment by involving apprentices in digital service delivery for global clients.

Who can apply

Applicants must be currently based in Rwanda or willing to relocate there, and they must be available for full-time participation throughout the duration of the programme. Candidates are required to be final-year university students or recent graduates in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Science, or related fields. Additionally, applicants need at least six months of practical programming experience obtained via training, internships, university work, personal projects, hackathons, or online courses.

Candidates must demonstrate a strong interest in software development, a commitment to a long-term technology career, and fluency in written and spoken English. The mid-level entry pathway specifically requires at least two years of professional experience.

What you get

The programme provides structured technical training, mentorship, and practical project experience through one of two pathways. The entry-level apprenticeship lasts for six months and is targeted at early-career talent and recent graduates. The mid-level entry apprenticeship lasts for four months and is designed for professionals with at least two years of experience. Both pathways are paid opportunities delivered on a full-time basis in Kigali.

Requirements

Applicants must be capable of working independently, taking initiative, and completing assigned tasks with minimal supervision. They are expected to show adaptability, accountability, a willingness to learn continuously, and strong problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.

How to apply

The recruitment process consists of multiple stages starting with an initial screening and shortlisting against minimum eligibility criteria. Candidates who pass the screening receive an email invitation for computer-based assessments, which feature a General Coding Assessment, a cognitive test, and a project challenge. Successful candidates from the assessment stage may be invited to an in-person interview day at AmaliTech Rwanda in Kigali, comprising both a technical interview and a culture-fit interview. Final successful applicants then proceed to offer preparation, communication, acceptance, documentation, and onboarding.
