University of Victoria Global Studies Fellowships 2027–2028: Funding of Up to CAD $7,500 Available
Overview
The Centre for Global Studies at the University of Victoria in Canada offers fellowship and award opportunities for the 2027–2028 academic year. The programme supports interdisciplinary research addressing major international challenges, with a particular emphasis on global climate change governance, structures of global inequalities, social and ecological justice, and the legacies of authoritarianism. Research activities take place at the University of Victoria in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
Who can apply
Applications are open to qualified University of Victoria faculty members and graduate students whose work features an international or global dimension. Qualified visiting graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and visiting researchers may also apply through their respective fellowship categories. The program actively encourages perspectives from the Global South and welcomes researchers from all disciplinary backgrounds whose work aligns with the Centre's research priorities.
What you get
Funding ranges from CAD $2,000 to CAD $7,500 depending on the specific fellowship category, and visiting researchers may qualify for a travel bursary of up to CAD $1,500. Specific financial packages include CAD $6,000 for graduate student fellowships alongside office space, CAD $7,500 per year in matching funds for faculty sponsorship of internal aspiration postdoctoral fellows, and CAD $2,000 per year as a research fund top-up for SSHRC postdoctoral fellows or equivalent award holders. Associate fellowships and certain visiting categories offer research networking, mentorship, library access, and use of selected Centre facilities.
Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate academic merit, an appropriate research record for their career stage, and a clear connection between their proposal and the Centre's objectives or priority themes. Successful fellows are required to treat the Centre as their primary office by working from its premises regularly, take part in programmes and activities, deliver at least one public seminar or lecture, and acknowledge the Centre for Global Studies in any resulting publications. Visiting researchers who receive non-stipendiary appointments must independently secure their own funding for travel, accommodation, health insurance, and visa-related costs.
How to apply
Candidates must visit the official University of Victoria Centre for Global Studies website, open the fellowship application page to select the correct category, and download the 2027–2028 application form. Applicants need to prepare a research proposal and supporting materials that articulate how their work connects to the Centre's goals and priority themes, and submit the completed application following the instructions provided in the relevant form.
Key dates
The application deadline for funded fellowships is 20 November 2026.
