Overview

The Doha Programme of Action Midterm Review Journalism Fellowship 2027 brings together 10 journalists from Least Developed Countries to attend and report on the upcoming Midterm Review. Hosted by the United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States, the programme runs in Doha, Qatar. The initiative focuses on enhancing media coverage surrounding sustainable development priorities, tracking progress toward international commitments, and linking global discussions to the actual conditions found within Least Developed Countries.

Who can apply

Candidates must hold citizenship in one of the 44 eligible Least Developed Countries and maintain an age of at least 18 years. Eligible participants include both staff journalists and freelancers who operate as bona fide journalists publishing or broadcasting through recognised media outlets. Applicants need a minimum of two years of professional journalism experience alongside an active interest in sustainable development topics. Furthermore, participants must possess the availability and capability to travel to Doha and take part in all mandated fellowship activities.

What you get

Selected fellows receive comprehensive financial and professional support to facilitate their participation in the Midterm Review. This support includes round-trip economy-class travel to Doha and a daily subsistence allowance covering meals and lodging following United Nations guidelines. Participants gain entry to pre-conference orientation sessions, fellowship briefings, and professional networking opportunities.

Requirements

Applicants must submit an online application accompanied by three specific documents. The first document is a short biography of up to 300 words detailing current professional standing, media affiliations, years in the field, reporting expertise, spoken languages, and experience covering relevant priority areas. The second requirement involves two samples of previously published work across print, online, radio, television, multimedia, or digital formats, with at least one sample concentrating on development matters. The third requirement is a reporting proposal of up to 400 words outlining intended story angles before, during, and after the event, relevance to local audiences, reporting formats, and target publication outlets.

How to apply

Submissions must be completed through the official online application portal before the closing date. No application fee is charged, and late or incomplete submissions are excluded from consideration. Selected fellows are ultimately responsible for completing all necessary administrative, visa, and travel formalities, as selection does not automatically guarantee conference accreditation or visa issuance.

Key dates

The application deadline falls on 30 November 2026. An online orientation is tentatively scheduled for February 2027. The Midterm Review takes place in Doha from 25–27 March 2027. Fellows must submit their final publication links by 30 April 2027.
