Overview
The Fortis Society is offering its 2027 Fellowship, which serves as a global leadership development programme and the entry point for new members joining the Society. The five-month programme runs from January to June 2027 and brings together emerging leaders from various sectors and countries worldwide. Participants engage in professional learning workshops, receive mentorship, and join a global network. The fellowship culminates in two days of cohort programming in Medellín, Colombia, followed by the Fortis Summit in June 2027. Upon completing the fellowship and the Summit, participants gain lifelong membership in the Fortis Society.
Who can apply
The programme is open to applicants worldwide from humble beginnings who want to make a significant, positive impact in their communities and beyond. There is no university degree requirement, no nomination requirement, and no application fee. Candidates do not need to work for a nonprofit organization and may come from businesses, government, healthcare, education, the arts, courts, ministries, and other professional fields. The selection process evaluates candidates based on four main pillars: humble beginnings marked by barriers related to a low-income background or being the first in a family to pursue a chosen path, an altruistic focus demonstrating how their work helps others, ambition at scale with a clear vision and prior steps taken toward their goals, and generosity shown through a willingness to share knowledge and support others. While open to different career stages, recent cohorts typically include individuals with one to five years of full-time work experience.
What you get
Selected fellows participate in professional learning workshops designed to strengthen their knowledge, skills, and leadership capacity. Each fellow is paired with an experienced member of the Society who serves as a mentor to discuss career goals and develop ideas for future impact. The costs of the cohort programming in Medellín and the Fortis Summit are covered for fellows. There are no application or fellowship fees required to participate. Following the completion of the fellowship and the Summit, participants become lifelong members of the Fortis Society, maintaining ongoing connections with the network.
Requirements
Applicants must submit a resume or portfolio demonstrating their work and achievements, along with three short written responses detailing their background, current work, and future ambitions. Candidates are also required to provide a two-minute introductory video recorded using a phone or laptop. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to participate in a virtual interview. The time commitment for the programme involves two to four hours of virtual sessions and mentorship each month from January to June 2027, in addition to four full days of in-person activities associated with the Medellín cohort programme and the Summit.
