Brown University invites applications for the Pembroke Center Postdoctoral Research Associate position for the 2027–2028 academic year. This residential opportunity takes place at the Pembroke Center in Providence, Rhode Island, running from 1 July 2027 to 30 June 2028. Scholars join an interdisciplinary community examining transnational feminisms, political economy, geopolitics, and feminist solidarities across borders.
Participants pursue independent research, take part in a weekly research seminar led by Nadje Al-Ali and Lingzhen Wang, and contribute to undergraduate teaching. The programme centres on global inequalities, cross-border political struggles, and feminist approaches to power, with particular attention given to Asia as a geopolitical context.
Who can apply
The opportunity is open to scholars from diverse academic disciplines, including interdisciplinary fields, the arts, humanities, social sciences, and sciences. Applicants must hold a PhD or complete all degree requirements before the appointment begins, and the doctorate must be from an institution other than Brown University. Candidates may not hold a tenured or tenure-track position concurrently.
Applicants must be available to reside at Brown University for the duration of the appointment. Immigration sponsorship is available through J-1 classification only for scholars who require it.

Requirements

Appointed associates are expected to participate actively in the weekly research seminar, teach one undergraduate course during the appointment year, and contribute to interdisciplinary discussions.
