University of Sheffield PhD Scholarship 2027 in the UK | Fully Funded
Overview
The University of Sheffield offers fully funded PhD studentships in its Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Each year four full studentships are supported, three for domestic students and one international award, which makes the competition strong. The studentship lasts 3.5 years in England and includes tuition fees and a maintenance stipend.
Students can apply for as many of the scholarships as they are eligible for. The schools involved are English, History, Philosophy and Digital Humanities, Languages, Arts and Societies, and the School of Law. Researchers work on projects alongside academic staff, postgraduates, early career researchers and regional stakeholders, and they take part in training and research activities. They can also use the social spaces of the Doctoral School Centre at the Jessop West site.
What you get
The scholarship covers tuition fees for 3.5 years and provides a maintenance allowance. Scholars study at the University of Sheffield and learn from fellow researchers and academic staff.
Who can apply
People already enrolled on a PhD cannot apply. Home students and international students can each apply to the scholarships listed for their category, and both must meet the eligibility conditions of the specific scholarship they choose. Applicants must be proficient in English.
How to apply
Applicants first apply for admission to the University through the online application portal, providing the required information and documents. After submitting, they receive an application number. They then complete the scholarship or funding application through the online form, entering that study application number. The process differs from scheme to scheme, so each scholarship's details should be checked first.
Required documents are a CV, an academic transcript, degree certificates, an English language certificate, a research proposal or supporting statement, a personal statement, and academic or professional reference letters.
Key dates
The study application must be submitted by 14 December, 2026. The funding application deadline is 19 February, 2027.
