PhD Studentship: Cut and project schemes in hyperbolic space with applications to acoustic metamaterials
Overview
This studentship focuses on investigating novel coding sequences generated by alternative splicing in the brain and their downstream functional consequences. The research combines bioinformatics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and molecular biology. The project objectives include identifying and prioritising novel coding sequences, determining whether prioritised transcripts are translated through methods such as mass spectrometry and single-molecule protein sequencing, and establishing how selected isoforms affect protein expression, localisation, interactions, and function using cell models.
What you get
The studentship provides funding for tuition fees and a stipend of £21,805 per annum for the 2026/7 academic year. Full computational and laboratory training is provided, along with access to datasets, advanced bioinformatics, high performance computing, and necessary laboratory facilities and equipment.
Key dates
The closing date for applications is 2026-12-08.
About University of Exeter
The University of Exeter is a public research university in the West Country of England, based mainly in Exeter, Devon, with further campuses in Cornwall. Its origins lie in St Luke's College (1838), the Exeter schools of Art and Science, and the Camborne School of Mines. A royal charter in 1955 created the university. It is a member of the Russell Group of research-intensive UK universities.
