PhD project: Resilient Processes of Nuclear Fusion Plant Maintenance and Decommissioning using Robotic Technologies
Overview
The University of Nottingham offers a PhD project focused on resilient processes of nuclear fusion plant maintenance and decommissioning using robotic technologies. Supervised by Rasa Remenyte-Prescott in the Faculty of Engineering, the project aims to develop a modelling approach for nuclear fusion plant maintenance and decommissioning processes. The research investigates qualitative and quantitative risk assessment techniques for robotics-based maintenance and decommissioning, identifies system failure modes and mission success factors, and models threats, their effects, and process recovery under uncertainty.
Who can apply
The opportunity is open to UK, EU, and overseas students. Applicants must have an enthusiastic profile as a graduate starting in October 2027.
Requirements
Candidates are required to hold a 1st class degree in engineering, maths, or a relevant discipline, preferably at the Masters level. In exceptional circumstances, a 2:1 degree can be considered.
Key dates
The closing date for applications is 2027-01-21. The position is open until filled. The project starts in October 2027.
