Overview

The DAAD EPOS Scholarship supports qualified professionals from low- and middle-income countries who want to complete a Master of Science in International Health at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. The German Academic Exchange Service grants up to three scholarships every year for this 12-month study programme. Participants undertake coursework and research across Germany, Norway, and Mexico before returning to their home countries.

What you get

Selected scholars participate in an intensive academic programme that starts with a German language course in July, followed by core studies in Berlin from September to December. Advanced modules take place from January to April, with some coursework available at partner institutions in Heidelberg or Bergen. From May to August, students move to Cuernavaca, Mexico, to finish their Master’s thesis at the National Institute of Public Health.

Who can apply

Candidates must be qualified professionals originating from eligible low- and middle-income countries. Applicants need a completed university degree equivalent to four years of study or 240 ECTS credits, with results placing them in the upper third of their graduating class. Their most recent academic degree must be less than six years old at the time of application. Additionally, candidates must possess at least two years of relevant professional experience acquired after completing their first university degree.

Requirements

Applicants are required to provide proof of English language proficiency through an IELTS certificate with a minimum Band 6 score, a TOEFL score of at least 550 on the paper-based test, or 80 on the internet-based test. An exemption from standardized language tests is available for applicants from Botswana, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe if they submit a certificate from their previous university’s Dean of Studies confirming that their entire degree was taught in English.

The application package must include a completed and signed DAAD application checklist, a hand-signed DAAD application form, a signed and dated Europass curriculum vitae, a motivation letter of no more than two pages, an employer recommendation on official letterhead, and employment certificates confirming at least two years of work experience. Candidates must also submit academic diplomas, official transcripts with grading scales, a passport scan, and an APS certificate if they apply from China, India, Mongolia, or Vietnam. All documents must follow specific file-naming instructions and be translated into English or German if issued in another language.

How to apply

Interested candidates must review the relevant scholarship guidelines, verify their eligibility, and fill out the online DAAD EPOS application form. Applicants need to prepare, sign, date, and scan all required supporting documents while strictly following the designated file-naming formats. The complete set of files must be submitted via email to the designated university address before the application period closes.

Key dates

The application period runs from 1 August to 15 October 2026, with the deadline falling on 15 October 2026. Programmes for successful applicants submitting materials during this cycle begin in September 2027.
