Overview

The Russian Government Open Doors Scholarship 2027 is a state-funded competition for Master's and PhD study at Russian universities. Participants can choose from around 500 Russian universities, including 21 leading ones, across all academic fields. Instruction is available in English or Russian depending on the programme and university, and Russia hosts more than 200,000 international students from 168 countries each year.

What you get

Education expenses are borne by the Russian state, and winners also receive a scholarship. A winner can enter a Master's or doctoral programme without taking entrance exams, through a one-stop-shop system. Participants can compete by subject and may enroll at several universities at the same time.

Who can apply

Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree or be completing a Bachelor's programme. Foreign citizens and stateless persons can register, and Russian citizens living abroad can also apply. Subjects include clinical medicine and public health, earth sciences, education, psychology, economics and econometrics, biology and biotechnology, neuroscience, physical sciences, chemistry and materials science, computer and data science, mathematics and artificial intelligence, business and management, political and international studies, linguistics and modern languages, and engineering and technology.

How to apply

The whole process is online, with no registration fee. Applicants register and then fill in a portfolio, listing research papers, certificates, awards and honors in their chosen subject to strengthen their chances. The portfolio structure is the same for all subjects and tracks and cannot be edited after the submission deadline. While waiting for the review result, applicants can use an automatic assessment system in their account to estimate an approximate score.
