Overview

The World Food Programme (WFP) is recruiting an Ethics Officer at P3 level, a full-time international professional post at its headquarters in Rome, Italy. It is open to internal and external candidates of all nationalities, and the selected candidate must relocate to Rome. The Ethics Officer works in the WFP Ethics Office and reports to the Senior Ethics Officer, supporting a strong ethical framework and culture of integrity and accountability. The post is non-rotational, meaning the holder would not normally be reassigned unless it is later reclassified as rotational.

What the role involves

Duties include contributing to the Ethics Office strategy and work plan, advising employees and management on ethics and standards of conduct, tracking and answering ethics queries, supporting the annual conflict-of-interest disclosure programme and advising on disclosed conflicts, and developing and delivering ethics training and e-learning, including train-the-trainer initiatives. The officer also advises on policies, circulars and regulations with ethical implications, supports requests for protection against retaliation, prepares memoranda and responses to complainants, supports the Office's digital presence and reports, and builds relationships within WFP and with UN and Rome-based agencies.

Requirements

Applicants need an advanced university degree in law, ethics, public administration, international affairs, compliance or a related field, and at least five years of progressively responsible experience in legal advice, compliance, risk assessment, ethics or a related area. They need theoretical understanding of ethics, compliance and risk assessment, technical knowledge of whistleblower protection policies, the ability to prepare legal memoranda, integrity, independence and impartiality, strong interpersonal skills, experience delivering training to small or medium audiences and the ability to listen sensitively. Fluency in English (Level C) and intermediate Level B knowledge of a second UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish or Portuguese) are required.

What you get

The package follows International Civil Service Commission standards and may include basic salary, post adjustment, relocation entitlement, visa support, travel and shipment allowances, 30 days of annual leave, home leave, an education grant, a pension plan and medical insurance. The contract is fixed-term with a one-year probationary period.
