Overview

The Future of Life Institute (FLI) is recruiting a Special Projects Manager for its Communications Team. The full-time role is remote, open to candidates based in a timezone between UTC-8 and UTC+1, and reports to the Director of Communications. FLI is an independent nonprofit working to steer transformative technologies toward beneficial outcomes while reducing extreme large-scale risks, through grantmaking, education and policy engagement. It has about 40 staff, mostly in Europe and the US, with offices in California, Brussels, London and Washington, DC.

The manager owns projects from scoping to delivery, such as campaign microsites, digital products, event identities, reports and international creative contests. The team works with a retained external studio for design and development. Duties include writing clear creative and technical briefs, defining success with stakeholders, sourcing and managing agencies and contractors, checking deliverables against briefs, brand guidelines and WCAG accessibility standards, maintaining the design system, and leading multi-month initiatives.

What you get

The salary is $100,000 to $190,000 a year, depending on experience and location. US-based hires receive health insurance, more than 24 days of paid time off, paid parental leave, 401(k) matching, a work-from-home allowance and a professional development budget. Benefits vary by location.

Requirements

FLI wants proven experience coordinating complex multi-stakeholder projects, winning alignment from senior colleagues, and building or improving delivery processes. Professional project management across design, communications or digital projects is required, with agency management especially valuable. Candidates should care about FLI's mission, have strong quality instincts, stay calm under deadlines and be able to decline unrealistic requests. Helpful extras include running contests, awards or grant rounds, familiarity with content management systems, SEO and analytics tools, and nonprofit or advocacy experience.
