The appointee teaches, researches and contributes academic leadership within a liberal arts institution. The department is interdisciplinary and welcomes scholars using varied disciplinary and methodological approaches to Africana Studies and Comparative Literature.

The department seeks expertise in African American literary traditions, Black Women Writers, the Harlem Renaissance, urban realism, the Black Arts Movement, Afro-Futurism, contemporary fiction, memoir and African American Gothic. Candidates who can teach literature from the wider African diaspora, including African and Caribbean literature, are also welcome.

They should show a strong commitment to research, publishing, teaching, mentoring and contributing to the wider academic community.

The minimum salary is $103,000 per year. The faculty member teaches four courses each year while pursuing an active research programme, delivers undergraduate teaching, advises students and supports the liberal arts mission. Benefits include health, dental and vision coverage, life insurance and disability coverage, retirement contributions through the college's 403(b) plan, work-life and wellness resources, access to campus facilities, libraries and cultural events, and transportation and commuting support.
