Overview
The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is recruiting an Associate Programme Officer at the P-2 level within the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT). The post is a fixed-term regular staff position lasting one year, with the possibility of renewal, and one position is available. The application deadline is 20 August 2026.
UNITAR supports capacity development and learning for people and institutions working on global development and humanitarian priorities. The United Nations Satellite Centre uses satellite imagery, geospatial information and data to support decisions in areas such as humanitarian assistance, disaster response, sustainable development and climate resilience.
What the role involves
The officer supports the Director and contributes to programme planning, monitoring, reporting, partnerships, data analysis, communications and coordination.
In programme management, the officer helps with annual workplans and implementation plans, maintains results frameworks, indicators, monitoring tools and tracking systems, follows up on agreed actions and records lessons learned. Monitoring and evaluation work includes collecting qualitative and quantitative information and helping prepare donor, progress, annual and management reports, as well as supporting reviews, audits and evaluations.
The post also covers partnerships and resource mobilization, such as researching donors, drafting concept notes and funding proposals and maintaining partnership databases. The officer may help build dashboards and visualizations and contribute to responsible use of AI and digital tools in line with United Nations policies. Communications tasks include newsletters, presentations, impact stories, briefing notes and support for workshops and events, along with coordination across technical teams.
Requirements
Candidates need an advanced university degree or equivalent and at least two years of progressively responsible international-level experience. English is required. Useful experience includes results-based management, programme monitoring and analytical reporting, together with strong writing, organization and collaboration skills.
