UNFPA Consultant Job 2026: Strategic Foresight and Programme Planning Analyst – Eligibility, Responsibilities and Application Guide
Overview
UNFPA Kenya is seeking a Strategic Foresight and Programme Planning Analyst for a short-term individual consultancy based in Nairobi, Kenya. The consultant will support the development of UNFPA Kenya's 11th Country Programme Document, which will guide programming for 2027 to 2032. UNFPA is the United Nations agency that works on sexual and reproductive health and rights, population issues, gender equality and the wellbeing of women, adolescents and young people.
The assignment pairs evidence review with forward-looking analysis. The consultant will look at current data and also at trends, uncertainties and possible disruptions that could shape population, health, gender, youth and development outcomes in Kenya.
What you get
The work covers several strands. The consultant scans for emerging signals and trends, such as demographic change, climate-related shocks, digital technologies, technology-facilitated gender-based violence, youth development and harmful practices, and helps maintain a strategic Signal Scanner, with at least 150 validated signals expected during the consultancy. They support the development of future scenarios for areas including sexual and reproductive health and rights, adolescents and young people, and gender-based violence.
Other duties include collecting, cleaning and analysing quantitative and qualitative data from sources such as demographic surveys, census data, health information systems and administrative datasets. The consultant also reviews earlier programme evaluations to draw out lessons and inform a stronger Theory of Change, supports consultations, workshops, retreats and co-creation sessions with government, civil society, youth-led and women-led groups, development partners and academia, and helps map potential partners, including private-sector and technology organizations.
Requirements
The ideal candidate holds an advanced university degree in a relevant field such as population studies, demography, data science, economics, development studies, statistics or sociology, backed by relevant professional experience. Strong research, analytical, writing, facilitation and interpersonal skills are needed.
