Overview
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is recruiting a Finance and Budget Assistant at the G-6 level in Bonn, Germany. The post sits in the Administration and Operations Division, in the Financial Resources Management Unit and its Grants and Contributions Management Unit. The indicative net annual salary is €59,874, for a two-year appointment with the possibility of extension, starting as soon as possible.
The UNFCCC Secretariat supports the Convention, its Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement. The team handles financial administration, accounting and reporting for assessed and voluntary contributions, grants, pledges and trust funds, in line with United Nations financial rules.
What the role involves
The assistant supports Professional and General Service staff on finance and grants management. Duties include helping review donor agreements, implementing partner agreements and cost plans, keeping records and tracking systems, and preparing payment requests, financial notifications and acknowledgment letters. The assistant also monitors how contributions are received and applied, processes income transactions, reconciles deposits and fees, and maintains master data in the Umoja ERP system.
Further tasks include preparing allotments and redeployments of funds, supporting the set-up, maintenance and closure of grants in Umoja, and tracking donor reporting deadlines. Expenditure and financial reports for supplementary projects are drawn from the ERP system, with discrepancies raised for review.
The role also covers Organizational Management work: reviewing fund allotments for staffing needs, maintaining positions and organizational units in Umoja in line with approved staffing tables, and generating structure reports. General administrative support includes background research, routine correspondence on financial and budget matters, record keeping, and assistance to the Team Lead and the Chief of the Financial Resources Management Unit.
Requirements
The minimum educational requirement is a high school diploma or equivalent, together with the professional experience set out in the vacancy announcement.
