Overview

UNESCO is recruiting a Digitization Project Coordinator in Paris, France. The post is at the P-2 level with a two-year project appointment, extendable subject to funding and performance. It supports the five-year archives initiative Global Histories, Shared Memories: Advancing Universal Access through Digitized UNESCO Archives, which runs from 2025 to 2030 and is funded by the Sharjah Book Authority in the United Arab Emirates. The project rehouses, digitises and publishes selected archival collections to widen access to UNESCO's institutional archives. The coordinator works within the Bureau for Digital Business Solutions, under the UNESCO Archives.

What you get

The approximate annual starting salary is US$87,095, plus staff benefits that may include 30 days of annual leave, a family allowance where applicable, medical insurance and a pension plan. The host-country visa requirement applies, with UNESCO facilitating the process where applicable.

The coordinator supports day-to-day delivery, managing timelines and budget monitoring, administration, reporting to donors and management, tracking systems, task and deliverable planning, digitisation activities with project teams and collection leads, technical specifications, liaison with external providers, quality monitoring, ingestion of files into preservation systems and UNESCO databases, logistics for the digitisation laboratory, communications and outreach, partnership and resource mobilisation, and evaluation.

Requirements

Applicants need an advanced university degree in a field such as Archival Studies, Records Management, Information Management or Library Studies, and at least two years of professional experience, preferably including one year internationally, coordinating digitisation projects in an institutional archive or library. UNESCO looks for multi-year project coordination, knowledge of digitisation standards, report writing, results-based management, work with archival databases, metadata and digital files, Microsoft Teams, Word and Excel, and willingness to work with AI tools. Project Management certification is an advantage. Excellent English or French and good working knowledge of the other language are required.

Applicants complete the online application on the UNESCO Careers platform; once submitted it cannot be changed. The process may include pre-recorded video interviews, written assessments, panel interviews and reference checks. Qualifications are verified using the World Higher Education Database, and UNESCO charges no fees. Applications from non- and under-represented Member States, women, persons with disabilities and minority and Indigenous groups are encouraged.
