UNDP Is Hiring a Carbon Markets Analyst – Home-Based International Opportunity|Apply before 12 Sept 2026
Overview
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is seeking a Carbon Markets Analyst for a home-based, full-time assignment under an International Personnel Service Agreement at IPSA-9 level. The contract lasts six months and the job identification is 36658. The analyst supports UNDP's Sub-Regional Hub for West and Central Africa, within its climate action, disaster risk reduction, resilience and energy portfolio, on a regional initiative to scale up carbon finance to preserve the Congo Basin forests. The initiative covers Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon and the Republic of Congo.
What the role involves
The analyst gives strategic, technical and policy support for carbon market development and climate finance. Duties include advising governments on carbon market strategies and operational frameworks, supporting harmonised policies across Central Africa, giving technical assistance on high-quality carbon credit projects, supporting REDD+ and jurisdictional programmes and Forest Reference Emission Levels, engaging private-sector investors, supporting Green Climate Fund concept notes and funding proposals, supporting climate finance tracking systems and carbon registries, conducting feasibility studies, writing technical reports and policy briefs, building partnerships and monitoring Article 6 and UNFCCC developments. Consultations include governments, local communities, Indigenous Peoples and civil society.
Who can apply
Applicants need a Master's degree or equivalent in fields such as environmental engineering, climate science, climate finance, economics, public policy or sustainable development with at least two years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree with at least four years. Experience should involve carbon markets, NDCs, Paris Agreement implementation or climate finance, with knowledge of project certification, registries, Article 6 decisions, independent crediting programmes and REDD+. Experience with governments, multilateral bodies or African climate initiatives is an advantage.
Requirements
Fluent English and French are required. The analyst works from home, stays available about eight hours on working days and attends virtual meetings. Any official travel follows UNDP policies. UNDP encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds.
