Overview

UN Women is recruiting a Regional Portfolio Specialist, Africa, for the UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women and Girls (UNTF to EVAW). The position is based in Nairobi, Kenya, at P-3 level, on a fixed-term appointment with an initial contract of one year. The UN Trust Fund is a global funding mechanism administered by UN Women that gives grants to civil society organizations working to prevent and end violence against women and girls.

The specialist manages a portfolio of grants across Africa and supports grant-making, monitoring, learning, capacity development and partnerships. This includes reviewing proposals, budgets, theories of change and risk plans, tracking grant performance through reports, consultations and monitoring missions, and contributing to grant selection. The specialist also analyses portfolio data to identify trends, lessons and evidence gaps, represents the Fund at regional meetings, works with UN Women offices, civil society, feminist movements and UN agencies, and supervises one Programme and Finance Associate. Funded programmes are to remain survivor-centred, feminist-informed, gender-transformative and evidence-based.

Who can apply

UN Women requires a master's degree or equivalent in social sciences, political science, development, public administration, gender studies or a related field. A first-level university degree plus two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted instead. Candidates need at least five years of progressively responsible programme management experience in the field of ending violence against women, including design, coordination, monitoring and evaluation, donor reporting and capacity building, and experience working directly with civil society and women's organizations in Africa.

Requirements

Fluency in English is required, and French or another UN language is desirable. Strong knowledge of gender equality, women's rights and the context of violence against women and girls in Africa is expected. Experience with complex multi-country portfolios in fragile settings, grant-making, due diligence and strengthening civil society organizations is an advantage.

How to apply

Applicants complete the online application, including education and employment history, as incomplete information may lead to disqualification. Selected candidates face reference and background checks, including verification of credentials. UN Women maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment, abuse of authority and discrimination.
