UN Women Home-Based Associate Consultant 2026: Apply for a Finance and Programme Opportunity
Overview
UN Women is recruiting a Finance and Programme Associate Consultant based in Kenya. The consultancy is home-based, full-time and initially lasts six months. It supports the ACT to End Violence Against Women and Girls Programme, funded by the European Union to strengthen women's rights movements, coalition building and advocacy. The consultant reports to a Programme Management Specialist, with matrix supervision from the Regional Coordinator for Ending Violence against Women, and makes sure financial and programme activities follow UN Women rules, policies, procedures and internal controls.
What you will do
The consultant reviews financial transactions and supporting documents, monitors exception reports, investigates unusual transactions, recommends corrective actions, prepares financial reports, gathers information for planning and budget revisions, and follows up on audit recommendations. Budget work covers the global and East and Southern Africa components of the programme, including budget revisions, expenditure controls, budget-check errors, invoice issues, VAT reimbursement documents, entries in QUANTUM, petty cash, unutilized funds and project closure.
The role also supports work plans, budgets and proposals, guides executing agencies on delivery and financial reporting, creates requisitions, registers goods receipts, prepares non-purchase-order invoices, processes consultant payments, and arranges meetings, workshops, events, missions, travel requisitions and claims. It may involve guiding programme assistants and civil society partners.
Requirements
Secondary education is required, and a specialized certification in accounting and finance is an asset, as is a bachelor's degree in finance or accounting. At least six years of progressively responsible finance experience is needed, with computer skills in Word, Excel, spreadsheets and databases, and experience with web-based management systems and a modern web-based ERP, preferably Oracle Cloud. Experience with EU-funded projects, ending violence against women or gender equality is an advantage. Fluent English is required, and French or Spanish is desirable.
