Overview

The Southern African Faith Communities' Environment Institute (SAFCEI) is recruiting a Communications and Engagement Coordinator based in Cape Town, South Africa. SAFCEI is a multi-faith environmental justice organisation working across Southern Africa, supporting faith leaders, green champions and communities to build awareness, develop skills and act on environmental and climate justice. The coordinator strengthens public communications, expands digital reach and shows the impact of its work on climate justice, eco-justice and sustainable living.

What the role involves

The coordinator develops communications plans for programmes, campaigns and projects and creates content for different audiences, including media releases, articles, blog posts, success stories, educational materials and campaign resources. Other duties include designing digital materials with consistent branding, updating the website, building monthly content calendars, managing online communities, and capturing photographs, videos and stories from across the region. The role also supports communications for campaigns, events, workshops and partnerships, builds relationships with media, partners, faith communities and civil society, and uses analytics to produce monthly reports and recommend improvements.

Requirements

Applicants need a Bachelor's degree or diploma in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, media studies, digital communications or a related field, with about three to five years of experience in communications, content creation, website management and social media. Required skills include a strong grasp of Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube, excellent writing, editing and storytelling, organisation and time management, and Canva. Familiarity with Google Analytics, Google Workspace and Microsoft Office is expected. Basic photography and video editing, and experience with project management tools such as Monday.com, are beneficial.

SAFCEI also wants an understanding of the nonprofit sector, particularly environmental justice, eco-justice and ethical governance, and a commitment to working across different faith communities. A valid, unendorsed driver's licence is required.

How to apply

Applicants send a motivation letter of no more than one page, a CV or professional profile, and, where available, a portfolio or links to previous communications work such as writing, campaigns, social media content or design. Applications are reviewed as they arrive, so applying early is encouraged.

The application deadline is 26 August 2026.
