Overview

The Plant Native is looking for a remote Website Coordinator to help maintain its growing online library of native plant content. The position is part-time freelance, classed as a 1099 role, and combines website administration, content editing, basic SEO and some knowledge of native plants. The coordinator publishes and maintains beginner-friendly plant content and keeps the site organised, accessible and easy to navigate. The successful candidate can start as soon as possible.

What you get

The pay is $23 per hour for roughly 15 to 20 hours a week. Work is about 95% asynchronous, with one weekly one-hour Zoom meeting, and some overlap with Eastern Time is preferred.

What the role involves

The coordinator uploads, formats and publishes content using WordPress and Elementor and checks that articles display well on desktop and mobile. Other duties include adding internal links, writing or checking alt text, fixing broken links and maintaining categories, tags and templates. The role also supports content for people new to native plants, such as drafting or editing introductions, frequently asked questions, short descriptions, resource pages and reusable content modules, and involves working in Google Docs and Google Sheets to keep content systems organised.

Who can apply

The organisation wants someone with strong organisational skills, clear writing and an interest in plants. Applicants do not need to know every scientific or Latin plant name, but should be able to explain plant information accurately in an approachable way. Backgrounds in gardening, nursery work, ecology, horticulture, environmental education, botany or native plant research could help. Experience with WordPress and Elementor is an advantage, and basic SEO, Photoshop and summarising reliable sources are also useful. Attention to detail and the ability to work independently are important.

How to apply

Applications are made by email with the subject line Website Coordinator. Candidates should include a short introduction of 5 to 10 sentences, an account of their experience with plants or related subjects, and 2 to 5 writing samples. They should also state their location and favourite native plant, and may mention previous website experience.
