Overview

International Medical Corps is seeking a Technical Director for its GUARD project, a global health initiative covering infectious disease preparedness, surveillance, infection prevention and control (IPC), and health systems readiness. The Technical Director is a senior member of the project leadership team, working with the Chief of Party, consortium partners, headquarters teams, country missions and government counterparts. The position is project-based, and the location may depend on operational needs.

The role sets overall technical direction, helps shape the technical strategy, theory of change and results framework, and makes sure approaches suit country contexts and security conditions.

Requirements

Applicants need a Master's degree or higher in public health, epidemiology, infectious disease, health systems, international development or a closely related field. A medical degree, PhD or DrPH is highly desirable. At least 12 years of progressive experience in global health programme management is required, including about 7 to 8 years in senior technical leadership.

Candidates should have strong experience in infectious disease surveillance, outbreak response, IPC and readiness for high-consequence infectious diseases, and in managing complex multi-country projects funded by donors such as the U.S. Government, Global Fund, World Bank or bilateral agencies. Leading multicultural teams in complex or insecure settings, mentoring, quality assurance and strong negotiation and partnership skills are also expected. English fluency is required, and French, Spanish or Arabic is an advantage, as is experience in fragile or conflict-affected environments.

What you get

The listing gives no salary or benefits. The role offers the chance to lead technical quality assurance, design training, mentoring and coaching for staff, partners and national counterparts, and represent the project in global, regional and national forums.

Responsibilities include overseeing components such as surveillance, IPC, screening and triage, safe isolation and referral pathways, monitoring implementation and recommending fixes, developing tools, procedures, guidelines and training materials, coordinating technical meetings and working groups across the consortium, promoting operational research and innovation, and documenting lessons for publications and conferences.

How to apply

Applications go through the organization's online recruitment system. The CV should show relevant experience in global health, infectious disease preparedness, technical leadership, programme management and partnership coordination.

Key dates

The application deadline is 30 October 2026.
