Overview
Southern Service Workers Education Fund Inc. (SSWEF) is seeking a Director of Finance and Operations to lead its financial and operational infrastructure. The full-time role is mostly remote and reports to the Managing Director. The director oversees financial planning, accounting, grants management, administration, technology, vendors, contracts and risk management, and works with the Managing Director and Board to turn organisational goals into realistic financial, staffing and operational plans.
Financial duties include annual budgeting, cash-flow forecasting and scenario planning, overseeing accounting and monthly close, maintaining internal controls, supporting audits and tax filings, managing grant budgets and restricted funds, monitoring funder compliance, and preparing reports for leadership and the Board. Operations duties include building administrative workflows and policies, overseeing vendor contracts, insurance, procurement, facilities and legal or regulatory compliance with outside advisors, and managing external IT providers. The director also manages and develops finance and operations staff.
Who can apply
SSWEF seeks 8 to 12 or more years of progressive experience in nonprofit operations, finance, administration or leadership, including budgeting, cash-flow management, grants, audits, controls, multi-million-dollar budgets, team supervision and compliance. Experience with 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organisations, fiscal sponsorship and complex funding is valuable, as are QuickBooks, Ramp, Bill.com, Salesforce and EveryAction, and experience in labor, advocacy, civic engagement or movement organisations.
What you get
The starting salary is 110,000 dollars a year and is non-negotiable, to maintain equity across candidates. Benefits include employer-paid health, dental and vision insurance for individuals and families, 18 days of paid time off, winter breaks, and a 401(k) with a 7 percent direct employer contribution plus a 3 percent match. Relocation support may be available for candidates with North Carolina connections.
Requirements
The role is not fully location-independent. The successful candidate should be in Durham, North Carolina, about once a month and live within reasonable driving distance, with Greensboro and Fayetteville suitable and Charlotte possibly considered.
