The Clean Air Fund is hiring a Senior Communications Officer for Breathe Cities, a global partnership between Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Clean Air Fund and C40 Cities that helps cities improve air quality and public health. The post can be based in Nairobi, Accra, Johannesburg, Addis Ababa or London, on a fixed-term contract until June 2029.
The officer supports communications delivery across several countries and partner organisations. Duties include developing and coordinating communications activities for Breathe Cities, creating stories that show the impact of clean air action, managing digital channels such as websites and social media, coordinating communications work across city teams, agencies and partners, keeping global messaging and editorial standards consistent, managing agency relationships and external suppliers, and turning complex climate, health and urban policy topics into accessible content. The role also involves planning activities and making sure projects are delivered well.
Who can apply
The Clean Air Fund looks for an experienced communications professional with a background in public-interest communications in NGOs, philanthropy, government, consultancy or similar organisations. Relevant experience covers digital communications, websites and social media, content development, writing and editing, project management, relationships with partners and suppliers and work in fast-paced international settings. Applicants should be organised, proactive and detail-oriented. Experience with cities or local governments, multi-country communications, and knowledge of air quality, climate change, public health, transport or urban policy are advantages. What you get
Salary depends on location: KES 4,500,000 per year in Nairobi, GHS 340,000 in Accra, ZAR 900,000 in Johannesburg and GBP 47,000 in London. The salary for Addis Ababa is a local equivalent still to be confirmed.
