Senior Research Associate
Overview
The School of Mathematical Sciences at Lancaster University is offering a three-year postdoctoral position for a Senior Research Associate. The successful candidate will work on the EPSRC-funded project titled Mutations and geometric models, with Dr. Coelho Simões serving as the Principal Investigator. The project focuses on addressing the shortfall in the systematic study of Calabi-Yau categories in wider contexts using mutations and geometric models.
The position is based on site at Bailrigg, Lancaster, United Kingdom, within the institution's Pure Mathematics section. The role is full-time and fixed-term for up to 36 months, starting on 1st February 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post carries no teaching or administrative duties, allowing the researcher to focus entirely on research, though voluntary teaching experience and travel funds for research visits are available.
Requirements
Applicants must hold a PhD degree in mathematics or a related discipline, featuring a specialism in homological algebra, representation theory, or algebraic combinatorics. Candidates with expertise in triangulated categories, representation theory of finite-dimensional algebras, combinatorial or geometric models arising from surfaces, singularity theory, or modular representation theory are strongly preferred. Additionally, applicants must be prepared to learn quickly, engage with new ideas, and contribute fresh insights.
How to apply
Candidates must complete the online application and attach a full CV, a cover letter, a one-page research statement detailing the relevance of their expertise to the position along with future research plans, and the contact details of two referees.
Key dates
The closing date for applications is 29th November 2026. Interviews will be conducted online on Friday 18th December 2026.
