Sankofa Commons Seeks 10 Global Contributors for a 3-Week Remote Knowledge Curation Opportunity
Overview
Sankofa Commons is being developed through the Global Narrative Hive as a monthly newsletter and emerging digital archive that traces, connects and amplifies knowledge, practices, voices and resources from grassroots movements, communities, disciplines, languages and sectors worldwide. It focuses on indigenous, African and Global South knowledge systems, including knowledge that comes through stories, memory, rituals, lived experience and community organising. It is seeking 10 global contributors for a fully remote knowledge curation engagement of about three weeks, expected to begin in September 2026.
What you get
Each selected contributor receives US$250 on completion, with 50 percent paid upfront. Contributors can be based anywhere in the world.
What you will do
Contributors find, document and summarise resources for the repository. Each must submit at least 20 resources, every one with a two- to three-sentence summary explaining its relevance. Resources can include articles, publications, videos, podcasts, social media content, websites and archives, as well as individuals, organisations, collectives, initiatives and gatherings that show alternative ways of understanding, learning and organising. Contributors also bring perspectives from their own communities, suggest new resource types, help identify gaps in the repository, and take part in a learning and experimentation process.
Who can apply
The call is relevant to researchers, academics, cultural workers, media practitioners, artists, activists, archivists, community organisers, knowledge equity practitioners and people working with grassroots movements or with indigenous, African or Global South knowledge. No single professional background is required.
How to apply
Applicants send an email with the subject line Sankofa Commons, including a CV, a short explanation of why knowledge equity matters to them and what it means for building a safer and more just world, and a short statement of why they are well placed to contribute. Creative ideas for curation methods are encouraged. Applicants should be sure they can review and summarise at least 20 resources within three weeks.
Key dates
The application deadline is 27 August 2026.
