Research Fellow in Particle Technology
Overview
The University of Leeds is offering two Research Fellow positions within the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, specifically in the School of Chemical and Process Engineering. These roles focus on experimental work in particle technology, with one position addressing particle adhesion and charging in cyclones and the other working on a newly developed instrument to characterise charge distribution on particles. The appointments are fixed-term until 26th February 2027 to complete specific time-limited work on a full-time basis.
Who can apply
Applicants should be experienced researchers and skilled experimentalists with an interest in characterising particle adhesion and exploring electrostatic charges on particles using various tools and techniques. The positions may be suitable for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa route, though first-time applicants may need to qualify for salary concessions. Eligibility under the Global Talent visa is also considered for research and academic posts.
What you get
The salary for this role ranges from £41,064 to £48,822 per annum at Grade 7. Employees receive 26 days of holiday plus approximately 16 bank holidays and custom closure days per year. The package includes a pension scheme with a 14.5% employer contribution alongside life assurance. Additional benefits comprise health and wellbeing offerings including discounted membership options for the campus gym, access to personal development courses, on-site childcare, shopping discounts, and travel schemes.
Requirements
Appointees are expected to further develop the Drop Test Method for particle adhesion measurement and characterise the charge distribution across a wide range of powders. Responsibilities also include authoring academic papers regarding the research outcomes and contributing to the preparation of future grant proposals.
How to apply
Interested candidates who wish to explore the post further or have any queries can contact Dr. Xiaodong Jia, Principal Investigator in the School of Chemical and Process Engineering, via email.
Key dates
The closing date for applications is 2 November 2026. The employment contract runs until 26 February 2027.
