Overview

More Perfect Union is an advocacy, journalism and education organization that works to build power for working-class people across the United States. Founded in February 2021, it covers labor, politics, business, public policy and economic justice, and its work has earned an Emmy, more than 1 billion video views and over 7 million followers and subscribers. It is now hiring a Research Fellow to join its social media and video production teams.

The fellow carries out original research and reporting, verifies information and keeps track of breaking news. Day to day this includes monitoring legislative hearings, press conferences, public forums, corporate earnings calls and government announcements, filing public records requests, and maintaining research databases and spreadsheets. The fellow also fact-checks video scripts, Instagram carousels, statistics, quotes and public statements before publication, and handles several projects at once under tight deadlines alongside video producers, journalists, editors and other researchers.

What you get

The position pays USD $25 per hour. It is fully remote and open to people living anywhere in the United States, with full-time working hours expected. The role offers a chance to contribute to award-winning journalism, build experience in investigative research and national policy, and see research reach large online audiences.

Requirements

Applicants need professional research experience and fact-checking experience; newsroom experience is preferred. They should have a strong interest in national politics, a commitment to labor issues and economic justice, excellent written and verbal communication, strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Experience with X, Instagram and other major platforms, and an understanding of trending conversations and online news cycles, is expected.

Skills that strengthen an application include investigative and analytical ability, public records and legislative monitoring experience, knowledge of journalism standards and familiarity with digital storytelling.

How to apply

Applications are submitted online through the organization's application page. Recruitment may close as soon as a suitable candidate has been identified.
