Overview

The University of Sheffield is seeking a Research Associate to join the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. This fixed-term position supports the institution's contribution to the Secure Motor AI-Responsive Technology project, which receives funding from Innovate UK. The appointed individual will engage in the creation and validation of computationally efficient motor-twin models for permanent magnet synchronous machines.

Responsibilities include machine modelling, state and parameter estimation, and preparing modeling outputs to share with project partners. The role requires collaborating with both academic and industrial partners to produce simulation and experimental validation evidence through dynamometer testing, hardware-in-the-loop methods, and available machine data. Additionally, the researcher will document methodologies and findings for project deliverables, publications, and reports. The fixed-term contract runs until January 31, 2028.

Who can apply

Candidates must hold a recently awarded PhD in electrical machines, drives, control, real-time simulation, or a closely related engineering discipline. Applicants should be motivated to advance deployable motor-twin techniques intended for intelligent motor drives.

What you get

The position provides a salary of 39560 British pounds per annum on a full-time basis. Employees receive an annual leave allowance with options to purchase additional days, a pension scheme, flexible working choices, and access to wellbeing support and professional development.

Key dates
