Overview

The University of Cambridge is hiring a Research Associate in the Department of Physics for a fixed-term position of nine months in the first instance, supported by funding from the Integrated Quantum Networks Hub. The successful candidate will work at the Cavendish Laboratory, Ray Dolby Centre, JJ Thomson Avenue, Cambridge CB3 0US, under the supervision of Professor Dorian Gangloff. The role holder will collaborate with a team of PhD students to design and conduct experimental investigations focusing on the coherent control and dynamical decoupling of electronic and nuclear spins in GaAs quantum dots. Additionally, the role involves contributing to the further development of experimental setups directed toward quantum networking.

Who can apply

Candidates must hold, or be close to completing, a PhD in physics or a related field. Appointment specifically at the Research Associate level is dependent on having been awarded a PhD. Individuals who have submitted their thesis but have not yet received their PhD will initially be appointed at the Research Assistant level and will progress to the Research Associate level once the PhD is awarded. Applicants must also ensure they are eligible to live and work in the UK.

What you get

The position is offered as a full-time, fixed-term contract with a salary ranging from £33,002 to £46,049 per annum.

Requirements

Applicants are required to possess significant experimental expertise in working with solid-state spin qubits, their coherent control, and quantum optics, with an ideal background in semiconductor quantum dots.

How to apply

Applications are submitted online. Candidates should quote reference KA51419 on their application and in any related correspondence. Informal enquiries can be directed to Professor Dorian Gangloff.

Key dates

The closing date for applications is 2026-11-15.
