Overview

Rainforest Trust is hiring a Donor Communications Writer and Editor for a full-time, remote-first position within the United States, with a salary of $68,000 to $73,000 per year depending on experience. Since 1988 Rainforest Trust has protected threatened tropical habitats and endangered species by supporting the creation and expansion of protected and conserved areas, working with local communities and partners across Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Pacific. It says its work has helped protect more than 60 million acres. As a nonprofit it depends on philanthropic support, and this role communicates its impact to donors.

The writer reports to the Senior Editorial Manager and develops donor-facing publications and reports, including annual and impact reports, stewardship and cultivation materials and newsletter and campaign content. They turn conservation science, project updates, monitoring results, financial information, scientific reports, proposals and budgets into accessible stories, taking care to distinguish planned outcomes, intended goals and documented achievements. They adapt messages for mid-level, major and principal-level donors and work with philanthropy, conservation, finance, marketing and communications teams and leaders.

Who can apply

Rainforest Trust seeks substantial writing and editing experience, including annual or impact reports, stewardship communications, newsletters, campaign materials and direct mail. Strong candidates show exceptional writing and editing, storytelling, editorial judgment, long-form experience, persuasive calls to action, research, synthesis and fact-checking, the ability to work with designers, photographers and data visualization teams, project and deadline management and commitment to conservation. They should share the organization's values: integrity, transparency, partnership, empowerment, data-informed decisions and efficient investment.

Requirements

The job is full-time, salaried and exempt. Part-time office space may be available in Washington, DC, and occasional national or international travel may be required.

How to apply

Candidates must submit both a resume and a portfolio of donor-focused writing samples, such as annual reports, impact reports, stewardship materials, newsletters, campaign content and direct mail. Applications without both will not be considered. Candidates who do not meet every qualification but have strong transferable experience are encouraged to apply.
