Program Associate, Governors Safeguarding Democracy: Remote Nonprofit Job Paying $70,000–$80,000
Overview
The Governors Action Alliance (GovAct) is hiring a full-time Program Associate to support Governors Safeguarding Democracy (GSD), a governor-led initiative focused on strengthening democratic institutions and advancing policies that protect fundamental freedoms. GovAct is a nonpartisan nonprofit initiative that helps governors work across state lines on major national issues, and it supports alliances on areas such as reproductive freedom, democracy, public safety and public health. The associate reports to the Managing Director and gives administrative, operational and project support.
What you get
The salary is $70,000 to $80,000 per year, depending on experience. Benefits include unlimited paid time off, 12 paid holidays, parental leave, medical, dental and vision coverage, short- and long-term disability coverage, wellness and technology stipends, a commuter stipend where applicable and a 401(k) with employer match.
Who can apply
The position is remote and available from anywhere in the United States. GovAct notes that hybrid work in Washington, D.C., or the San Francisco Bay Area is possible, and some travel may be required. The listing identifies the United States as the eligible remote location. Applicants do not need to meet every qualification, but three to five years of experience in nonprofits, government, law, policy, communications, public relations or a related field is considered beneficial. A bachelor's degree in government, political science, public policy, communications, journalism, public relations or a related field is preferred, along with familiarity with public policy, state government and gubernatorial operations.
Requirements
The associate manages calendars, schedules meetings, coordinates senior staff travel and tracks deadlines and follow-ups. Meeting and research support includes preparing agendas, gathering background material, attending selected virtual meetings, taking notes and producing memoranda, summaries, fact sheets, presentations and talking points. Communications tasks may include drafting weekly newsletters and managing senior staff email. Project work covers database support, reporting deadlines and event logistics.
Candidates need strong organisation, attention to detail, discretion, good writing, the ability to juggle priorities in a fast-paced remote team, and proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint and Teams.
