Overview
The University of Oxford Department of Physics invites applications for a postdoctoral research position within the Sub-department of Astrophysics. The successful candidate will focus on designing and implementing a large-scale astrophysical transients programme utilizing the Africa Millimetre Telescope, working collaboratively with the Oxford-based and international Blackholistic and AMT teams. The Africa Millimetre Telescope is a new millimetre-wavelength facility under construction in Namibia with first observations anticipated in 2027 to 2028, and it will serve as an integral component of the Event Horizon Telescope array while conducting dedicated rapid-response observations and high-cadence monitoring of transient phenomena. This full-time, fixed-term position is for a duration of 2 years and is based at the Denys Wilkinson Building in Oxford. The postholder will also have the opportunity to teach.
Who can apply
Applicants are required to hold a PhD, or be close to completing one, in astrophysics or a related discipline. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills and the capacity to work effectively and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary, international research environment. Previous experience in radio or millimetre astronomy and astrophysical transients is noted as highly desirable.
What you get
The salary for this full-time position ranges from £39,424 to £47,779 per annum on Research Grade 7.
